I've found the mic to have a flattish response at 12" or greater from the mic. The low end gets bumped up if you move closer, but the mic is "voiced" for a flat response from 1 foot out and greater. This is quite a nice feature for this mic as most of the "pencil" mics I've seen/heard are voiced for much closer usage causing their distant sound to be missing that low end. Over 1 foot from the mic results in a fairly natural sound character both indoors and out.

I actually found a good soft cradle and wind guard for $30.00 & $120.00. On a Collapsing pole with an H5zoom it's a very decent BOOM mic for a first time indy film. Which is exactly what I purchased it for.

The first time I used a hard cradle and I could hear every time I adjusted my grip. And a swooshing sound every time I swung the pole. It was nuts. With the Auray DUSM universal shock mount and the Rycote Baby Ball Gag (half blimp wind guard) it gets crystal clear audio. Well... to me. I'm not a sound guy. Just an ambitious artist.
